Subscribing to forums or threads

Postby Fraz » Tue Feb 16, 2010 12:25 pm

Cluckie asked me how to do this, so I thought I'd post up instructions for everyone:

There are three ways of receiving email notifications for posting activity in either threads or forums. You can either:

1) Manually subscribe to every thread you are interested in, or

2) Manually subscribe to every forum you are interested in, or

3) Opt to be notified upon replies by default for any thread you have posted in.

Instructions for each:

1) The first option requires you clicking the "Subscribe topic" link at the bottom of any threads you want to watch. You should then get email notifications of any further posts in the thread

2) Open up a forum (i.e. so you can see the threads in the forum), and then click the "Subscribe forum" link at the bottom.

3) Go to the "User Control Panel" link towards the top left of every page, then select the "Board preferences" tab, and then click on the "Edit posting defaults" option on the left hand side. Now change the "Notify me upon replies by default" radio button to Yes and click Submit.

Regardless of which way of doing things you choose, you will be able to see your thread/forum subscriptions in the User Control Panel. Look under the "Overview" tab, see the "Manage subscriptions" sub-menu on the left. You should be able to see a list of "WATCHED FORUMS" or "WATCHED TOPICS" if you have things working correctly.

Hope that helps,

Fraz

Hi Cluckie,

It's a bit misleading... you want it so it has a cross next to it, not a tick. I.e the tickbox is showing what will happen when you click it, not the current status of the subscription.

Cheers,

Rob
