Travel Insurance

Postby isorod » Fri May 14, 2010 6:08 pm

Hi. just thought I would mention that when Rod became ill and was working towards surgery we decided to cancel our cruise that was booked for May. In January I contacted the Insurers throgh my travel agent and was sent a package of forms to complete. I completed these including the one from my GP and sent them off recorded delivery (keeping copies) I received an acknowledgement and was also informed that as they were experiencing a high percentage of dlaims it would be some time before I heard from them.
In April I wrote to them asking at what stage my claim was at only to receive the same stock letter that I had received earlier.
Wondering if anyone has experience of this or any advice to offer. Thanks, isorod.

Hi David,
Hard to believe but after yet another letter to the company I have to day received a cheque for an amount much less than I originally claimed for. As I am not happy with this I intend to cash the cheque asap then write to express my dissatisfaction and ask for an explanation.

So it goes on, I will keep you posted - may be a long drawn out battle. isorod

Hi Isorod
Be careful if you cash the cheque it's not full and final payment because if you cash it that's you accepting their offer.

Hi David,
Thank you for that advise, I did not look at it in that way. I am now rethinking my course of action, after six months I may well accept and have finished with it. isorod.

Hi Isorod
That's what the insurance companies hope you will do and how they make their money.

My advice would be never accept the first offer there's always a bit extra to be squeezed out of them if you can afford to wait and can cope with the hasstle.

Have you tried contacting C.A.B. ?

Take Care

Hi David,
Just to let you know I have decided to accept the insurance companies amount. Having re read the small and large print in their schedule it seems that the amount is about correct. The excess and administrative charges total the amount paid or near enough.

Enjoy your trip and look forward to hearing from you on your return. isorod.

Hi Isorod
As long as your satisfied the amount is near enough correct then you have to accept although I'm sure it leaves a bad taste.

Thank you for your good wishes I'm sure I will enjoy my trip and will have plenty to report on my return.

Take Care
